This comment tries to ponder the advantages and difficulties of doing comparative History in the Latin American context. Este artículo es un comentario al reciente libro Los regímenes de Portales y Rosas frente al mundo popular 1829-1852, cuyos autores comparan los regímenes políticos instaurados en el Chile de la república portaliana y la provincia de Buenos Aires bajo el rosismo entre las décadas de 1830 y 1850. El comentario intenta ponderar las ventajas y dificultades de hacer historia comparativa en el contexto latinoamericano.
