Sumario:This article seeks to put into dialogue the objectives of the authorities who promoted the census of the city and countryside of Buenos Aires carried out in 1744, with the decisions taken during its process of construction, as well as the influence those decisions had in the information present in the source. The mentioned registry is, and has been, a key input for the historiography of the period. However, the attention given to the aims of the authorities that promoted it, does not match the knowledge about the role of a key actor: the commissioners.
