The mentioned registry is, and has been, a key input for the historiography of the period. However, the attention given to the aims of the authorities that promoted it, does not match the knowledge about the role of a key actor: the commissioners.   En el presente artículo se busca poner en diálogo los objetivos de las autoridades que impulsaron el padrón de la ciudad y campaña de Buenos Aires realizado durante el año 1744, con las decisiones forjadas en el proceso de su construcción, así como la influencia que tuvieron en la información presente en la fuente. El mencionado padrón es, y ha sido, un insumo clave para la historiografía del período. Sin embargo, la atención brindada a los fines de las autoridades que lo impulsaron no se corresponde con el conocimiento sobre el papel de un actor clave: los comisionados. Este artigo busca dialogar os objetivos das autoridades que promoveram o cadastro da cidade e a campanha de Buenos Aires realizada durante o ano de 1744, com as decisões forjadas no processo de sua construção, bem como a influência que tiveram sobre as informações presentes na fonte. O referido registro é, e tem sido, um insumo fundamental para a historiografia do período. No entanto, a atenção dada aos propósitos das autoridades que a promoveram não corresponde ao conhecimento sobre o papel de um ator-chave: os comissários.
