Their locations adopted the name of “women’s prison” in several Argentinian cities. In this article it is presented a case study of an asylum in Azul, between 1918 and 1932. The inquiry of that period –which begins with the idea of the incorporation of the sisters to this city and ends with the inauguration of the Good Shepherd’s Asylum– allows to have a glimpse on relationships between society, assistance, state and religion in this city. Likewise, their features and political, economic and social transformations that modified traditional tasks of this congregation are explored.Local press is specially used in order to accomplish this work. This source is complemented, furthermore, by Minors Defense’s minutes and judicial archives. Departing from a case that has not been studied, the article’s objective is providing new approaches to the research on Sisters of the Good Shepherd’s actions developed in Argentina regarding female confined population. Las religiosas de la Congregación de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Buen Pastor desempeñaron labores vinculadas a alojar y recluir en asilos a una población femenina de franja etaria heterogénea. Sus establecimientos adoptaron el nombre de “cárcel de mujeres” en muchas localidades de la Argentina.En este artículo se realiza un estudio de caso acerca del proceso de instalación de un asilo de esta congregación en Azul, entre 1918 y 1932. La indagación del período mencionado, que se inicia con la idea de incorporar a las religiosas a esta ciudad y finaliza con la inauguración del Asilo Buen Pastor, permite entrever las relaciones entre sociedad, asistencia, Estado y religión en esa localidad. Asimismo, se exploran las particularidades y avatares políticos, económicos y sociales que generaron la mutación de sus labores tradicionales.Para realizar este artículo se utilizaron como fuente principal diarios locales, complementándolos con actas de la Defensoría de Menores y expedientes judiciales. Su objetivo es, a partir de un caso no estudiado, aportar nuevos acercamientos a las labores desempeñadas por la Congregación del Buen Pastor en Argentina en relación con la población femenina encerrada.
