The early and controversial nature of this reception will be highlighted. On the one hand, authors adhering to the Unidad Popular government saw in it a political and doctrinal support for their commitment to the cause of socialism and the history of Latin America. On the other hand, its critics interpreted it as an undue centrality of political action, a weakening of the transcendent nature of theological reflection, and a threat to the unity of the Church. |

A través del análisis de publicaciones elaboradas al interior del mundo católico chileno en el curso de la Vía Chilena al Socialismo, este artículo se propone interpretar históricamente el uso del concepto liberación como objetivo de la acción religiosa y horizonte de cambio social. Junto a ello, analizar e interpretar la recepción que la obra del teólogo peruano Gustavo Gutiérrez Teología de la Liberación. Perspectivas tuvo en el campo teológico nacional, destacando el carácter temprano y polémico de dicha recepción. Por un lado, los autores adherentes a la Unidad Popular vieron en la Teología de la Liberación un apoyo político y doctrinal a su compromiso con la causa del Socialismo y la historia de América Latina. Por otro lado, sus críticos interpretaron una indebida centralidad de la acción política, el debilitamiento de la naturaleza trascendente de la reflexión teológica y una amenaza de fractura de la unidad de la Iglesia. Através de uma análise de publicações produzidas no âmbito do catolicismo chileno durante o Caminho para o Socialismo, este artigo procura interpretar historicamente a utilização do conceito de libertação como objetivo da ação religiosa e horizonte para a transformação social. Analisa e interpreta ainda a recepção da obra do teólogo peruano Gustavo Gutiérrez, *Teologia da Libertação: Perspectivas*, no campo teológico nacional, destacando o carácter inicial e controverso desta recepção. Por um lado, os autores filiados no governo da Unidade Popular viam na Teologia da Libertação um suporte político e doutrinal para o seu compromisso com a causa do socialismo e com a história da América Latina. Por outro lado, os seus críticos interpretavam-na como uma centralidade indevida da acção política, um enfraquecimento da natureza transcendente da reflexão teológica e uma ameaça à unidade da Igreja.
