The book represents the initial step in this reconstruction, as it is presented as the first volume, covering the period from 1973 to 1979. En Cuando se templó el acero. Las juventudes Comunistas de Chile en los primeros años de la dictadura (1973-1979), Rolando Álvarez se propone reconstruir la historia de las Juventudes Comunistas de Chile (en adelante, JJCC), brazo juvenil del Partido Comunista chileno (en adelante, PCCh), durante los primeros años del régimen pinochetista. El libro representa el paso inicial en dicha reconstrucción ya que se presenta como el primer tomo que abarca de 1973 hasta 1979. Em Quando o Aço Foi Temperado: A Juventude Comunista do Chile nos Primeiros Anos da Ditadura (1973-1979), Rolando Álvarez propõe-se reconstruir a história da Juventude Comunista do Chile (JCC), a ala jovem do Partido Comunista do Chile (PCCh), durante os primeiros anos do regime de Pinochet. O livro representa o passo inicial desta reconstrução, sendo apresentado como o primeiro volume, abrangendo o período de 1973 a 1979.
