Based on proceedings of the Marian Feminine Congress of Chile held in 1918, this paper analyzes the assessment that participants made of their own work, specifically in connection to care and assistance to the poor. In this regard, it is proposed that the articulating axes of their practices are grouped along four lines: first, care of the sick; second, assistance to underprivileged children; third, concern for the working class women; fourth, the instruction of workers in their role as fathers and husbands. This analysis allows us to conclude that social action was the central sphere in which Catholic women forged their influency from the end of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century. Este artículo estudia la participación de las mujeres católicas de clase alta en la acción social. A partir de las actas del Congreso Mariano Femenino de Chile realizado en 1918, se analiza el balance que las asistentes realizaron de su labor, específicamente, en tareas de cuidado y asistencia a los pobres. Al respecto, se propone que los ejes articuladores de sus prácticas se agrupan en cuatro líneas: la atención a los enfermos, la asistencia a la infancia desvalida, la preocupación por las mujeres de la clase trabajadora y la instrucción de los trabajadores en su rol de padres y esposos. Lo anterior, permite concluir que la acción social fue el ámbito central en el que las señoras católicas forjaron su agencia desde fines del siglo XIX hasta inicios del siglo XX. Este artigo estuda a participação de mulheres católicas de classe alta na ação social. A partir da ata do Congresso Feminino Mariano do Chile, realizado em 1918, analisa-se o balanço que as participantes fizeram de seu trabalho, especificamente, nas tarefas de cuidado e assistência aos pobres. Nesse sentido, propõe-se que os eixos articuladores de suas práticas sejam agrupados em quatro linhas: cuidado aos doentes, cuidado às crianças carentes, preocupação com as mulheres da classe trabalhadora e instrução dos trabalhadores em seu papel de pais e maridos. O exposto permite concluir que a ação social foi a área central em que as mulheres católicas forjaram sua atuação desde o final do século XIX até o início do século XX.
