The growth of the economy based on exports and the arrival of immigrants in exponential quantities that guaranteed the availability of labor to work the new lands put into production, were central elements in this process. However, modernization would also bring its less auspicious sides, derived from a cultural transformation, social complexity and accelerated urbanization that generated inequalities and left many sectors outside the benefits of development. Argentina entró al siglo XX en un marco de optimismo que parecía no poder ser puesto en duda. El crecimiento de la economía basada en la exportación y la llegada de inmigrantes en cantidades exponenciales que garantizaban la disponibilidad de brazos para trabajar las nuevas tierras puestas a producir, fueron elementos centrales en ese proceso. Sin embargo, la modernización traería también sus costados menos auspiciosos, derivados de una transformación cultural, una complejización social y una urbanización acelerada que generó desigualdades y dejó a muchos sectores afuera de los beneficios del desarrollo. O crescimento da economia baseada nas exportações e a chegada de imigrantes em quantidades exponenciais que garantiram a disponibilidade de mão de obra para trabalhar as novas terras colocadas em produção, foram elementos centrais nesse processo.A Argentina entrou no século 20 em um quadro de otimismo que não parecia ser questionado. O crescimento da economia baseada nas exportações e a chegada de imigrantes em quantidades exponenciais que garantiram a disponibilidade de mão de obra para trabalhar as novas terras colocadas em produção, foram elementos centrais nesse processo. No entanto, a modernização também traria seus lados menos auspiciosos, derivados de uma transformação cultural, complexidade social e urbanização acelerada que gerou desigualdades e deixou muitos setores à margem dos benefícios do desenvolvimento.
