Publications on the subject have increased in the last decade and indicate that it is a topic of scientific interest with full relevance. Its history is brief: the first experiences took place in the 1960s in the space race. Fundamentally, telemedicine was born as a non-face-to-face care modality, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by technology in contexts where the distance between health teams and users was a problem. The companies of the Industrial Medical Complex (CMI) identify telemedicine modalities as a possibility of a more fluid and less regulated contact between users consumers and service companies in the health field. In turn, the need for social distancing to prevent infections between people in the health emergency due to SARS-CoV-2 offered a suitable context for telemedicine. The pandemic probably stimulated the abrupt massification of different modes of remote care. However, many of the forms of current use of telemedicine have not yet been thoroughly reviewed in ethical and legal terms. Questions are raised regarding the influence of this process in the deepening of biomedicine as the dominant model of current medical practice. La telemedicina se presenta como una modalidad de trabajo clínico que creció en los últimos años en magnitud, difusión y aceptación, especialmente a partir de la pandemia por el virus SARS-CoV-2. Las publicaciones sobre el tema han aumentado en la última década y señalan que se trata de un tema de interés científico con plena actualidad. Su historia es breve: las primeras experiencias tuvieron lugar en la década del ´60 en la carrera espacial. Fundamentalmente, la telemedicina nace como una modalidad de atención no presencial aprovechando las posibilidades ofrecidas por la tecnología en contextos donde la distancia entre equipos de salud y usuarios significaba un problema. Las empresas del Complejo Médico Industrial (CMI) identifican las modalidades de telemedicina como una posibilidad de un contacto más fluido y menos regulado entre usuarios-consumidores y empresas de servicio del campo de la salud. A su vez, la necesidad de distanciamiento social para prevenir contagios entre personas en la emergencia sanitaria por el SARS-CoV-2 ofreció un contexto acorde para el desarrollo de la telemedicina. Probablemente, la pandemia estimuló la masificación abrupta de diferentes modos de atención a distancia. Sin embargo, aún no se han revisado profundamente en términos éticos y legales muchas de las formas de uso actual de la telemedicina. Se plantean interrogantes respecto de la influencia de este proceso en la profundización de la biomedicina como modelo dominante de la práctica médica actual.
