I15-R234-article-3992025-12-19T13:37:52Z The Cambiemos government and the 2018 agreements with the IMF: the failure of a political project and the beginning of an (unfinished) hegemonic reconfiguration El gobierno de Cambiemos y los acuerdos del 2018 con el FMI: el fracaso de un proyecto político y el comienzo de una (inconclusa) reconfiguración hegemónica Samaja, Manuel Alianza Cambiemos; Fondo Monetario Internacional; hegemonía; modos de acumulación; transnacionalización del capital Based on a review of the state of the art –especially focused in the field of Marxism and neo-structuralism, though not exclusively– and an exploration of some primary and secondary sources, this article provides a comprehensive perspective on the economic-political process of the Cambiemos government, with a particular focus on the role of the agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and their consequences for the hegemonic project of President Macri’s party. The first section of the article is dedicated to a general characterization of the mode of accumulation during the Kirchnerist governments, highlighting the political and economic challenges that the Cambiemos project sought to address. Subsequently, it provides a general description of the mode of accumulation during the Cambiemos administration, analyzing the economic and political reasons behind the 2018 agreements with the IMF. Finally, the article discusses the consequences of the financial crisis and the government's response (primarily resorting to the IMF Stand-By Arrangement) for the hegemonic project of Cambiemos, concluding that the IMF's conditions played a decisive role in the disarticulation of the Macrist political project. Paradoxically, however, they also contributed to a transformation in the broader political system, ultimately deepening the predominance of the form of capital that Macrismo sought to represent.
