It took place at the Carolina Tobar García public hospital in the city of Buenos Aires, the only hospital specialized in pediatric mental health in Argentina. Regarding its methodology, the study in this article was based on an ethnographic method and was developed during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021). It was based on conducting interviews with professionals along with participation in virtual and synchronic clinical athenaeums, due to the impossibility of conducting face-to-face participant observation. The main challenges faced by the professionals of the institution will be analyzed, as it is the only specialized mental health hospital for children and teenagers in the country. Some of the practices, conceptions, and professional strategies combined with the current organization and centralization of statal care resources will be addressed. The exceptional context during the year 2020 will be of central importance, because the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic matched with the deadline established by the National Mental Health Law to reform the specialized mental health institutions in the sanitary system. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la gestión estatal de problemáticas en salud mental de niñas, niños, y adolescentes. Se desarrolló en el hospital público Carolina Tobar García de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, el único hospital especializado en este tópico de la Argentina. A nivel metodológico, el estudio que se presenta en este artículo tomó un carácter etnográfico y se desarrolló durante los primeros dos años de pandemia por COVID-19 (2020-2021). Se basó en la realización de entrevistas en profundidad a profesionales junto a la participación en ateneos clínicos, virtuales y sincrónicos, frente a la imposibilidad de realizar una observación participante presencial. Se analizarán los principales desafíos que tienen los/las profesionales de la institución al ser el único monovalente en salud mental infanto-juvenil del país. En este sentido, se abordarán algunas de las prácticas, concepciones, y estrategias profesionales en vínculo con la actual organización y centralización de los recursos estatales de atención. En este maco, cobrará una importancia nodal el contexto excepcional acontecido durante el año 2020, en la medida que conjugó el comienzo de la pandemia por COVID-19 con el cumplimiento del plazo que fijaba la Ley Nacional de Salud Mental para “desmanicomializar” el sistema sanitario.
