I15-R234-article-3052025-11-28T19:48:04Z The SAPS and the technical cooperation between Brazil and the United States (1945-1950) O SAPS e a cooperação técnica entre Brasil e Estados Unidos (1945-1950) Marcio da Silva, Claiton de Paula Andrade, Rômulo Cooperação Técnica Brasil/EUA; História da Alimentação no Brasil; História das Políticas Públicas Technical Cooperation Brazil/USA; History of Food in Brazil; History of Public Policies The aim of this article is to analyze the encounters and disagreements between Brazilian and American experts in the technical cooperation agreements established by the two countries in projects focused on the brazilian workers’ food. The time frame is the 1940s, when the American International Association for Economic and Social Development (AIA), created by Nelson Rockefeller, signed an agreement with the Serviço de Alimentação da Previdência Social (SAPS), to the creation of the Setor de Visitação Alimentar (SVA), which would be coordinated by US experts. Inspired by the US Home Demonstration model, the objective was to disseminate and coordinate Home Economics courses in Brazil. Based on this agreement, we argue that the social policies of the period were also related to international debates on the issue of food and health for workers in a context of widespread urbanization and profound economic transformations in Brazil.
