The Department of National Statistics served as a center from which data and information of diverse origin were articulated and subjected to statistical analysis. This resulted in "scientific objects" that made it possible to articulate social realities and produce new research niches, which allows us to connect historical narratives that had been produced independent from each other. This article traces some of the objects related to food that emerged in the 1920s and 1930s and consolidated phenomena such as population consumption statistics, which made possible the creation of other objects, such as the rural worker's "food basket". Al finalizar la Revolución mexicana, el Estado que emergió se vio envuelto en crisis recurrentes de legitimidad. Uno de los medios por los cuales se estabilizaron ciertos fenómenos como relevantes para obtener conocimientos sobre la realidad que se pretendía gobernar fue la consolidación de saberes estadísticos. El Departamento de Estadística Nacional fungió como un centro desde el cual se articularon datos e información de origen diverso, y que fueron sometidos al análisis estadístico. Esto dio como fruto “objetos científicos” que permitieron articular realidades sociales y producir nuevos nichos de investigación, y que nos permiten entrelazar narrativas históricas que se han producido de forma independiente. En este artículo se rastrean algunos de los objetos relacionados con la alimentación que surgieron en las décadas de 1920 y 1930 y que consolidaron fenómenos como las estadísticas de consumo poblacional, que posibilitaron la creación de otros objetos, como el “cesto de provisiones” del trabajador rural.
