The legislation related to the protection of maternity, childhood, old age and disability is compiled and analyzed in three historical periods: 1924-1973; 1973-1990 and 1990-2020. Finally the actors that cover the needs of paid and unpaid care, from the public and private sectors, are shown. It is argued that in Chile the latest social and health crises represent a turning point that portraits the undoubted importance of care in social reproduction and the well-being of the population, as well as the limits of Chilean model of social organization of care stratified by class and gender.
