The legislation related to the protection of maternity, childhood, old age and disability is compiled and analyzed in three historical periods: 1924-1973; 1973-1990 and 1990-2020. Then, the structural factors that are at the basis of the crisis of the social organization of care in Chile are discussed. Finally the actors that cover the needs of paid and unpaid care, from the public and private sectors, are shown. It is argued that in Chile the latest social and health crises represent a turning point that portraits the undoubted importance of care in social reproduction and the well-being of the population, as well as the limits of Chilean model of social organization of care stratified by class and gender. En este texto se describe brevemente la evolución de las políticas sociales relativas al cuidado, para lo cual se recopila y analiza la legislación relativa a la protección de la maternidad, de la niñez, de la vejez y de la discapacidad en tres períodos históricos: 1924-1973; 1973-1990 y 1990-2020. Luego se analizan los factores estructurales que se encuentran en la base de la crisis del modelo de organización social del cuidado en Chile, y finalmente se muestran los actores que cubren las necesidades de cuidados remunerados y no pagados del sector público y privado. Se sostiene que en Chile, las últimas crisis sociales y sanitarias representan un punto de inflexión que muestra la indudable importancia del cuidado en la reproducción social y en el bienestar de la población, así como los límites de este modelo de organización social chileno de los cuidados estratificado por clase y género.
