OJS was designed to facilitate the development of open access publishing, supporting the entire editorial approval flow, considering the submissions of articles, indexing and publication. It was published in 2001 and is compatible with OAI-PMH. Los accesos Abiertos significan una nueva manera de pensamiento para la divulgación del conocimiento y se basa en nuevas tecnologías de comunicación. Esta corriente promueve eliminar las barreras económicas, legales y tecnológicas, y trata de obtener a cambio, como beneficios, una mayor accesibilidad para los documentos y una mayor visibilidad para los autores y ha sido discutida por varios documentos internacionales.OJS fue diseñado para facilitar el desarrollo de publicaciones de acceso libre, apoyando todo el flujo de aprobación editorial, contemplando el envío de artículos, indización y publicación.
