The objective was to perform an epistemological and pedagogical-didactic analysis of textbook as resource, centered at the pragmatic level, interpellating textual language and aiming at its formal characteristics, contents and communication potentialin order to make transparent and evident the hidden intentionality that facilitates teachers’ mediation. An innovative methodological design was applied, oriented to pragmatics, and respecting the use of rules, communication strategies, text tools and approaches, in the interaction process. In the analysis of text discourse we identify the existence of rules of distribution, re-contextualization and evaluation, as well as the use of assertive and hierarchical communication strategies and, of other rules such as: descriptivetext, argumentative text and temporality resource. We conclude that the analysis procedure employed represents a novelty in the field of analysis of textbooks, since the principles on which they stand are feasible and provide objective parameters that allow identifying, relating and comparing among relevant aspects in the text discourse resulting in better teachers’ mediation. El presente trabajo está orientado a establecer un análisis del libro de texto recomendado por la asignatura Histología II, de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. El objetivo fue realizar un análisis epistemológico y pedagógico-didáctico del recurso libro, centrado en el nivel pragmático, interpelando al lenguaje textual y apuntando a sus características formales, contenidos y potencial comunicacional a fin de transparentar y hacer evidentes las intencionalidades que facilitan la mediación docente. Se aplicó un diseño metodológico innovador, con orientación en la pragmática, observando el uso de reglas, estrategias comunicacionales, herramientas textuales y enfoques, en  proceso de interacción. En el análisis del discurso textual identificamos la existencia de la reglas de distribución, de recontextualización y evaluativas, como asimismo el uso de estrategias comunicacionales asertiva y jerarquizada y, de otras herramientas tales como: texto descriptivo,  de argumentación y recurso de temporalidad. Concluimos que el procedimiento de análisis empleado, representa una novedad en el campo del análisis de los libros de texto, ya que los principios en los que se apoya son asequibles y proporcionan parámetros objetivos que permiten identificar, relacionar y comparar aspectos relevantes en el discurso textual que resulten en  una mejora de la mediación docente.
