The text shows how, and from which key historical events, the military elites opposed the front organised around the demands for truth-justice-memory of the human rights organisations with another, speculative front of concealment-non-revision-impunity. The paper also explains how and why the party elites, based on the strategy of ‘silence to negotiate’ the conditions for a political solution, positioned themselves in a calculated balance between the demands of the former and the needs of the latter. El artículo analiza el contenido, tensiones y temporalidades de los posicionamientos y estrategias de las elites militares y partidarias en torno al “problema de los desaparecidos” durante la última dictadura cívico-militar argentina (1976-1983). El texto muestra de qué forma, y a partir de qué acontecimientos históricos clave, al frente organizado en torno a las demandas de verdad-justicia-memoria de los organismos de derechos humanos, las elites militares opusieron otro, de carácter especular, de ocultamiento-no revisión-impunidad. Asimismo, el trabajo explica cómo y por qué las elites partidarias, basadas en la estrategia de “callar para negociar” las condiciones de la salida política, se posicionaron en un calculado equilibrio entre las demandas del primero y las necesidades del segundo.
