A synthesis of the development and implementation of the SIMHUNER and ARHIUNER simulation modelsis presented. The SIMHUNER is capable of mathematically simulating the catchment response and extendingflow series from daily rainfall and evaporation series. The model is based on a conceptual scheme that represents basin storage using three reservoirs. Mass transfer among reservoirs and into the atmosphere as well as the generation of different runoffs are regulated by functions and algorithms whose parameters are determined by the Rosenbrock optimization algorithm with restrictions. ARHIUNER allows the simulation ofreservoir operation. This requires observed or calculated flow series to obtain the relationship between reservoir capacity, irrigation demand and risk. Both models are complementary for a rational and sustainablewater resources planning in irrigated areas. The application of the models to the upper basin of theGualeguaychú river has permitted the validation of the model. It also showed the importance of long flowseries for the correct evaluation of risk in irrigated areas. |
