Tandil city has drinkable water net and sewer system, but those services do not reach all the city areas. This work analyses the case of the Cerro Los Leones neighborhood, which is located on the west of Tandil city, and does not have both basic services. The inhabitants of this area exploit groundwater by means of wells into the freatic aquifer, devoid of design parameters which ensure the sanitary protection of the acuifer. Moreover, because of the absence of a sewer system, the inhabitants spill their excrements in cesspits, done with equally few protection measurements, and those are located next to the pumping perforation in several cases. This situation of exploitation and use of groundwater, together with the social life conditions and the absence of planning and control by the authorities, generate significant impacts on water quality, in this case evaluated trough bacteriological parameters, and on the life quality of the population.

La ciudad de Tandil cuenta con tendido de red de agua potable y sistema cloacal, pero ambos servicios no cubren la totalidad del área urbana. En este trabajo se analiza el Barrio Cerro Los Leones, ubicado al Oeste de la ciudad, que no es abastecido por estos dos servicios básicos. Los habitantes de dicho barrio explotan el agua subterránea a partir de perforaciones del acuífero freático, realizadas sin parámetros de diseño que garanticen la protección sanitaria. Además, debido a la falta de un sistema de red cloacal, los pobladores vierten sus excretas en pozos resumideros, realizados con escasas medidas de protección, y en muchos casos próximos a las perforaciones de bombeo. Esta situación de explotación del recurso hídrico, sumada a las condiciones sociales en las que habitan y a la falta de planificación y control por parte de las autoridades, genera importantes impactos, tanto sobre la calidad del agua subterránea, en este caso evaluada mediante parámetros bacteriológicos, así como sobre la calidad de vida de la población.
