Plant diversity register in hydrological studies

Generally, biosphere changes are analyzed based on the distribution of vegetation patterns, since plants are the component of ecosystems that most affects productivity, food chains and ecosystem structure. This is particularly relevant in wetlands, since they constitute valuable areas because of the...

description Generally, biosphere changes are analyzed based on the distribution of vegetation patterns, since plants are the component of ecosystems that most affects productivity, food chains and ecosystem structure. This is particularly relevant in wetlands, since they constitute valuable areas because of the ecosystem services they provide and whose functioning depends on the strong interactions between hydrology and ecology. The aim of the work is to highlight those publications in which the plant diversity recorded within the framework of projects carried out by the IHLLA has represented a fundamental contribution to the interpretation of plains areas from an ecohydrological perspective. We synthesize into three large groups the publications where plant diversity is documented as a tool for A. the quantification of environmental heterogeneity at different scales, B. the application of interdisciplinary conceptual frameworks and, C. the generation of data for evidence-based decision making. The numerous examples cited of studies in which plant diversity registers participate demonstrate the usefulness of its inclusion in the design and implementation of environmental policies towards the sustainable use of resources.
