The trip allowed them to know, describe and inform the leadership of the League about that distant and unknown world, which they considered it was imperative to intervene to improve the workers' living conditions and stop the advance of socialism. At the crossroads of the aspirations of scientificity, based on direct observation, and classist preconceptions and moral prejudices, the diagnosis promoted questions and possible answers to advance in the workers' organization. The voyage of the Catholic expeditionaries, captured in the book Por los ingenios de Tucumán. Impresiones de viaje, allows us to rethink an unprecedented experience of knowledge, linkage and action born of social Catholicism in the early twentieth century. The challenge of this article is to contribute to an interrelated social history that privileges the look around the possibilities, uncertainties and challenges of social Catholicism to build a diagnosis of the sugar world and generate proposals for action in northern Argentina. A principios del siglo XX, la Liga Democrática Cristiana envió a Tucumán a tres expedicionarios con el propósito de relevar las condiciones socio-laborales de los obreros azucareros. El viaje les permitió conocer, describir e informar a la dirigencia de la Liga sobre ese mundo distante y desconocido, que consideraban era imperioso intervenir para mejorar las condiciones de vida obrera y frenar el avance del socialismo. En el cruce de las aspiraciones de cientificidad, basadas en la observación directa, y los preconceptos clasistas y prejuicios morales, el diagnóstico promovió interrogantes y posibles respuestas para avanzar en la organización obrera. La travesía de los expedicionarios católicos, plasmada en el libro Por los ingenios de Tucumán. Impresiones de viaje, permite repensar una inédita experiencia de conocimiento, vinculación y acción nacida del catolicismo social a principios del siglo XX. El reto de este artículo es contribuir a una historia social interrelacionada que privilegie la mirada en torno a las posibilidades, incertidumbres y desafíos del catolicismo social para construir un diagnóstico del mundo azucarero y generar propuestas de acción en el norte argentino.
