Along with this, the repercussions in the political - social spheres that opened the way for the return to democracy are also identified, noting that both oil, as well as the very nature of the Ecuadorian dictatorship, played a decisive role in the democratic process. El presente artículo indaga sobre la última dictadura ecuatoriana (1972 - 1979) y el boom petrolero, para dar cuenta de los principales efectos económicos desagregados del impulso productivo en la era petrolera del Ecuador. Junto con ello, se identifican además, las repercusiones en los ámbitos político – social que abrieron el camino para el retorno a la democracia, advirtiendo que tanto el petróleo, así como la propia naturaleza de la dictadura ecuatoriana jugaron un rol decisivo para el encauce democrático.
