Sumario:This article aims to contribute to the debate about the contemporary political regime and interpretations of democracy in Ecuador. To do this, the different theories of subclassification of the democratic political regime are compared and a particular one is proposed for the Ecuadorian case, in a historical period between 1989 to 2022, where several presidents governed and whose features of access and exercise of power would mark forms of private government. It is about classifying and characterizing thirteen governments in the country during forty years of democracy whose government policy must be classified as corporatist, elitist, populist and nationalist; based on four fundamental aspects: government patterns, characteristics of political actors, political and governmental strategies, and public institutions. A contribution of elements to comparative politics, models of democracy and political changes.
