It is about classifying and characterizing thirteen governments in the country during forty years of democracy whose government policy must be classified as corporatist, elitist, populist and nationalist; based on four fundamental aspects: government patterns, characteristics of political actors, political and governmental strategies, and public institutions. A contribution of elements to comparative politics, models of democracy and political changes. El presente artículo pretende contribuir al debate acerca del régimen político contemporáneo y las interpretaciones sobre la democracia en Ecuador. Para ello, se cotejan las diferentes teorías de subclasificación del régimen político democrático y se propone una particular para el caso ecuatoriano, en una temporalidad histórica entre 1989 hasta el 2022, donde varios presidentes gobernaron y cuyos rasgos de acceso y ejercicio de poder marcarían formas de gobierno particulares. Se trata de clasificar y caracterizar a trece gobiernos del país durante cuarenta años de democracia cuya política gubernamental ha de catalogarse entre lo corporativista, elitista, populista y nacionalista; basada en cuatro aspectos fundamentales: patrones de gobierno, características de los actores políticos, estrategias políticas y gubernamentales, e instituciones públicas.
