The text is structured in three sections: the first addresses the social construction of gender and masculinities, the second discusses the relationships between men, health and suffering, and the last discusses possible tensions in the exercise of masculinities. facing a long-term condition in men, considering them subjects suffering from the far-reaching experience that a chronic illness represents. In that sense, it is considered that the male sufferer faces conditioning in the demonstration of his manhood during his suffering path. Finally, it is concluded that it is necessary to continue contributing theoretically and empirically to this type of discussions to better understand the way in which gender and conditions affect each other. En este trabajo de reflexión teórica se agrupan una serie de argumentos para el análisis de las tensiones que tienen lugar durante el desarrollo de enfermedades crónicas en varones y como estos condicionarían su identidad y demostración de género. El texto se estructura en tres apartados: el primero aborda la construcción social del género y de las masculinidades, en el segundo se discuten las relaciones entre varones, salud y padecer, y en el último se argumentan las posibles tensiones en el ejercicio de las masculinidades frente un padecimiento de larga duración en los varones, considerándolos sujetos padecientes por la experiencia de largo alcance que representa una enfermedad crónica. En ese sentido, se considera que el varón padeciente se enfrenta a un condicionamiento en la demostración de su masculinidad durante su trayectoria del padecer. Por último, se concluye que es necesario seguir abonando teórica y empíricamente a este tipo de discusiones para comprender de una mejor manera la forma en que se afectan mutuamente el género y esta clase de padecimientos.
