The importance of animal husbandry during the Egyptian Bronze Age (ca. 2750-1070 BC), and especially of stable farming for valuable animals such as cattle and horses, requires the production of large stocks of fodder. It is therefore necessary to examine the methods of acquisition and the different types of fodder used by the Egyptians during Antiquity, in order to meet the different needs. Indeed, the constitution of fodder reserves may require the mobilisation of large agrarian plots, but also require a specific organisation of plant predation in the environment. Nevertheless, not all plants that can be used as fodder have the same nutritional qualities or are suitable for all species of animals. Quality fodder comes essentially from crops that require a lot of effort and investment (land, techniques and labour). On the contrary, the recovery of straw and cereal by-products requires little or no additional work, and maximises production costs. |

La importancia de la cría de animales durante la Edad del Bronce egipcia (ca. 2750-1070 a.C.), y especialmente de la cría estable de animales valiosos como ganado y caballos, requiere la producción de grandes existencias de forraje. Por tanto, es necesario examinar los métodos de adquisición y los diferentes tipos de forrajes utilizados por los egipcios durante la Antigüedad, con el fin de satisfacer las diferentes necesidades. De hecho, la constitución de reservas de forraje puede requerir la movilización de grandes parcelas agrarias, pero también requiere una organización específica de la depredación de plantas en el medio ambiente. Sin embargo, no todas las plantas que se pueden utilizar como forraje tienen las mismas cualidades nutricionales o son aptas para todas las especies de animales. El forraje de calidad proviene fundamentalmente de cultivos que requieren mucho esfuerzo e inversión (tierra, técnicas y mano de obra). Por el contrario, la recuperación de subproductos de paja y cereales requiere poco o ningún trabajo adicional y maximiza los costos de producción. L'importance de l'élevage pendant l'âge du bronze égyptien (ca. 2750-1070 av. J.-C.), et en particulier de l'élevage stable d'animaux de valeur tels que le bétail et les chevaux, rend nécessaire la production d'importants quantités de fourrage. Il est donc nécessaire d'examiner les modes d'acquisition et les différents types de fourrages utilisés par les Égyptiens durant l'Antiquité, afin de répondre aux différents besoins. En effet, la constitution de réserves fourragères peut nécessiter la mobilisation de grandes parcelles agraires, mais aussi nécessiter une organisation spécifique de la prédation végétale dans l'environnement. Néanmoins, toutes les plantes pouvant être utilisées comme fourrage n'ont pas les mêmes qualités nutritionnelles ou ne conviennent pas à toutes les espèces d'animaux. Un fourrage de qualité provient essentiellement de récoltes qui demandent beaucoup d'efforts et d'investissements (terre, techniques et main d'œuvre). Au contraire, la valorisation des pailles et des sous-produits céréaliers nécessite peu ou pas de travail supplémentaire, et maximise les coûts de production.
