| Sumario: | This work seeks to promote nutrient recycling through the reuse of vinasse, reducing the environmental impact in a circular economy system. Soil samples with different doses of vinasse were incubated in the laboratory under controlled humidity and temperature conditions to study vinasse breakdown in five representative soils of the sugarcane-growing area of Uruguay. Vinasse was applied at the following rates: 0 (control treatment), 125, 250, and 375 m3 ha-1 . The evolution of pH, EC, available P, and mineral N in soil samples was measured 14 and 180 d after the start of the experiment. The microbial respiration rate was determined by measuring CO2 production for 140 days. No changes in pH or P were observed after 180 days of incubation. Respiration rate was increased by vinasse addition and differed significantly (p < 0.0001) between soils until the 20th day of the experimental period, after which no differences were observed between soils. N mineralization varied among soils in the experiment. According to our results, 180 days of incubation are insufficient for complete mineralization of vinasse. |
