The sowing equipment subsector has grown steadily in Argentina since 1951, mainly in the regions with the highest agricultural production, such as Santa Fe and Córdoba. This generated a process of clustering currently in force which, together with vertical and horizontal integration processes, have consolidated a strong agro-industrial system. The adoption of no-till for soybean cultivation in extensive agriculture systems strongly boosted the sowing equipment industry, which focused on manufacturing sowing machines adapted to this new production system. The sowing machines manufacturing sector is highly atomized and characterized by constant product design innovation, despite lacking strong R&D departments. It is the demand that drives the innovation process. The main advantage of this demand-driven innovation is that the industry is protected against imported sowing equipment, while the main disadvantage is that the short production series thus generated hamper economies of scale, stabilization of production processes, and permanent access to foreign markets. |

El subsector de equipos de siembra tuvo un sostenido crecimiento en Argentina desde el año 1951, principalmente en las regiones de mayor producción agrícola como Santa Fe y Córdoba. Esto generó un proceso de “clusterización” actualmente vigente con procesos a su vez de integración vertical y horizontal, consolidándose un fuerte sistema agroindustrial. La difusión del cultivo de soja y de la siembra directa en cultivos extensivos impulsó fuertemente a esta industria; la misma se enfocó en la fabricación de sembradoras adaptadas a este nuevo sistema de producción. Los fabricantes de sembradoras se encuentran muy atomizados y se caracterizan por innovar permanentemente en el diseño de los productos, aunque no cuentan con fuertes departamentos de I+D. Es la demanda la que tracciona el proceso de innovación. La principal ventaja que esto trae aparejada es que protege a la industria ante la entrada de equipos de siembra del exterior, en tanto que la principal desventaja es que se generan series cortas de producción que no permiten lograr economías de escala, estabilizar procesos productivos y acceder en forma permanente a mercados externos. O subsetor de equipamentos para plantio teve um crescimento constante na Argentina desde 1951, principalmente nas regiões de maior produção agrícola, tais como Santa Fe e Córdoba. Isso gerou um processo de “clusterização” atualmente em vigor com processos de integração vertical e horizontal, consolidando um forte sistema agroindustrial. A expansão do cultivo da soja e da semeadura direta em lavouras extensivas impulsionou fortemente essa indústria, que se concentrou na fabricação de semeadoras adaptadas a esse novo sistema de produção. Os fabricantes de semeadoras são altamente fragmentados e caracterizam-se pela inovação constante no design de produtos, embora não tenham departamentos de P&D fortes. É a demanda que impulsiona o processo de inovação. A principal vantagem que isso traz é que protege a indústria contra a entrada de equipamentos para plantio do exterior, enquanto a principal desvantagem é que são geradas séries de produção curtas que não permitem obter economias de escala, estabilizar os processos de produção e acessar de maneira permanente ao mercado externo.
