Sumario:This article reconstructs Eliseo Verón's theorization regarding the point of view that the analyst-observer should adopt within the framework of his theory of social discourses, identifying four moments. With an eclectic profile and a foundation education in philosophy, but early dedicated to sociology in the stage of institutionalization and consolidation of the discipline at a national level, Verón was a protagonist in the foundation of Argentine semiotics and became an international reference in the field. Reflections on the place of observation –as a primary and unavoidable activity of all scientific work in any area– and of the observer in social research are a basic aspect of his work. At the same time, they have been a heuristic motor for the formulation of his sociosemiotics. Therefore, the lines presented here are intended to contribute to the understanding of the epistemological assumptions involved in the work of an author and, both, nourish contemporary discussions about the way in which knowledge accredited as scientific is produced about human behavior – and its various manifestations.
