The proposal has followed a theoretical perspective that puts in dialogue socio-anthropological studies on the prison system with Social Work, adopting methodological techniques of the ethnographic approach. In this research, it was possible to recover the perspectives of the incarcerated persons in order to learn about their capacities of agency to build strategies and actions aimed at obtaining measures to make their imprisonment more flexible. This is due to the fact that the data presented in the annual report on the prison population of Santiago del Estero prepared by the National System of Statistics on the Execution of Sentences shows a marked difficulty in opening prisons through the application of early release measures. In this context, it creates quasi-judicial demands and obligations in the experiences of prisoners, who must multiply efforts and diligences to obtain the judicial sanction. Este artículo presenta los resultados alcanzados de un trabajo de campo realizado con personas privadas de la libertad en la Unidad Penal n.°1 de Santiago del Estero. La propuesta ha seguido una perspectiva teórica que pone en diálogo estudios socioantropológicos sobre el sistema carcelario con el Trabajo Social, adoptando técnicas metodológicas propias del enfoque etnográfico. En dicha investigación, se logró recuperar las perspectivas de las personas encarceladas en busca de conocer sus capacidades de agencia para construir estrategias y acciones tendientes a la obtención de medidas de flexibilización del encierro. Esto, debido a que los datos presentados en el informe anual sobre la población carcelaria de Santiago del Estero elaborados por el Sistema Nacional de Estadísticas sobre Ejecución de la Pena evidencian una marcada dificultad para abrir las cárceles mediante la aplicación de medidas de egreso anticipado. En este contexto, crea exigencias y obligaciones cuasijudiciales en las experiencias de personas presas, que deben multiplicar esfuerzos y diligencias para obtener la sanción judicial.
