The objectives were oriented to the analysis of the foundations that support the elections of the Montevidean middle class in relation to the educational service provision sector, trying to problematize the possible consequences that migration and the valuation of the public and private in the education, can generate in the processes of social integration. The analysis of the speeches that emerged in the interviews carried out with adult references of adolescents and young people belonging to the Montevidean middle sectors, allowed to delve into their strategies, representations and arguments. This article presents the analysis of the reasons presented by the interviewees in relation to the choice of public school and migration to the private sector at the high school stage. Then it appears that between leaving and staying the middle class doubts. The public involves aspects that invite you to stay, but some flaws motivate you to leave and look for what you no longer find in this area. En la búsqueda de respuestas a interrogantes vinculadas a los procesos de integración social, surgió esta investigación en la que las elecciones y decisiones de los agentes tienen un papel protagónico. Los objetivos definidos, se orientaron al análisis de los fundamentos que dan sustento a las elecciones de la clase media montevideana en relación al sector de provisión del servicio educativo, intentando problematizar las posibles consecuencias que la migración y la valoración de lo público y privado en la educación, pueden generar en los procesos de integración social. El análisis de los discursos surgidos en las entrevistas realizadas a referentes adultos de adolescentes y jóvenes pertenecientes a los sectores medios montevideanos, permitió ahondar en sus estrategias, representaciones y argumentos. Se presenta en este artículo, el análisis acerca de los motivos que presentaron las personas entrevistadas en relación a la elección de la escuela pública y la migración al sector privado en la etapa liceal. Surge entonces que entre irse y quedarse duda la clase media. Lo público entraña aspectos que invitan a quedarse, pero algunas fallas motivan a irse y buscar lo que en este ámbito ya no encuentran.
