It also includes some theoretical references that support the sense that the term acquires for the field of mental health and among their workers. Due to the nature of the topic, a qualitative approach is used and semi– addressed interviews are conducted to key informants, from which the axes of meaning that are analyzed are extracted. They slide from the idealization of the category to its relation with the notion of independence. Based on the stories and clinical experiences provided, the subjective value of autonomy in relation to decision–making and the construction of social bonds in the community is located. In short, this work makes it possible to recover the dimension of autonomy as a nodal element for alternative practices, taking into account that its workers elaborate a particular way of understanding and operating with it. In this way, an understanding of the term is created and makes the specificity of a field taking elements from the psychoanalytic perspective. Este trabajo analiza los sentidos sobre la autonomía, que se construyen en prácticas sustitutivas, a partir del encuentro con sus trabajadores. Asimismo, recoge algunas referencias teóricas que abonan al sentido que adquiere el término para el campo de la salud mental. La inquietud fundamental se orienta a conocer y analizar a qué se hace referencia cuando se habla de autonomía en salud mental y cuáles son los indicadores que se construyen al interior del campo. Por la naturaleza del tema se utiliza un abordaje cualitativo y se realizan entrevistas semidirigidas a informantes clave, de las cuales se extraen los ejes de sentido que son analizados. Los mismos implican un deslizamiento de la definición al sentido, pasando por la idealización de la categoría y su relación con la noción de independencia. A partir de los relatos y las experiencias clínicas brindadas se ubica el valor subjetivante que supone la autonomía en relación a la capacidad de decisión y la construcción de lazos sociales en la comunidad. En suma, este trabajo posibilita recuperar la dimensión de la autonomía como un elemento nodal para las prácticas sustitutivas, teniendo en cuenta que sus trabajadores elaboran una forma particular de comprenderla y operar con ella. De este modo, se confecciona una acepción del término que hace a la especificidad de un campo, y toma elementos de la perspectiva psicoanalítica.
