The methodological strategy consisted of open and unstructured interviews with 12 female individuals living in the city of Rosario, Argentina. In this paper, two aspects, that have been of central importance in the development of the investigation, are taken into account. The first one is related to the representations of motherhood, with some distinguished characteristics, such as full-time care work, the renunciation of personal life or professional development, and the fulfillment of motherhood mandate that has never been their objective. The second one states the hypothesis that motherhood, as a mandate, is incorporated into the female body as a habitus. This understanding enables the consideration of motherhood not as a destiny, but rather as an open system of dispositions that can be affected by new experiences and transformed, thus enabling the display of other different practices apart from nurturing. The conquest of important spaces in the subjective female configuration, such as the professional field, and the possibility of reflecting on and questing patriarchal mandates lead to the clear understanding of childfree life as an option and not as an instance of resignation.
