The events related to the conflict, and the existence of their organization, have gone almost unnoticed in social, historical and economic studies. The purpose of this article is to rescue the events that led to the strike and analyze the impact that the conflict had in four main dimensions: the role of the State as a mediator between capital and labor; the situation of women workers in the sector; the labor relations system; and the redefinition of the political rules of the game. Evidence of substantive transformations was found in these dimensions, which allow us to consider the conflict as a significant event in Uruguay history. The investigation was based on secondary sources: parliamentary debates, municipal declarations and press releases from the main newspapers in the country. So far, no files from the company or the women's telephone union have been found. The research began in 2018 within the framework of a project called "Message by absence", which aims to contribute to the recovery of events involving women removed from the collective memory.
