We recover her insights on the specificities of women's political situation in contemporary democracies, starting from the most specific to the more general aspects. We particularly look at the differences between patriarchal and conjugal power, the distinction between the public and private spheres, the debate between Pateman and the contractualists and paternalist authors, and the arguments referring to the link between Welfare State, women and citizenship. We also include our own perspectives in the conclusions, aiming at a critical re-reading of the texts. The article is sustained in a conceptual tracing strategy, as well as a cross reading one and an incorporation of contemporary readers of Pateman´s work.
