This work presents new results guided by the following objectives: 1) archaeologically characterize the current urban area of Osorno from systematic surveys and 2) describe the archaeological contexts identified in spatial, material and chronological terms. The research discusses the indigenous political-territorial organization in relation to the discontinuous process of urban implantation in the 16th and 18th centuries, emphasizing a reflection on the continuity and change in cultural patterns in the study area. Se documenta la historia ocupacional de la provincia y ciudad de Osorno en el contexto de relaciones interculturales prehispánicas y coloniales de la llamada “frontera de arriba”, en la porción meridional de la Gobernación de Chile. Este trabajo presenta uevos resultados guiados por los objetivos siguientes: 1) caracterizar arqueológicamente la actual área urbana de Osorno a partir de prospecciones sistemáticas y 2) describir los contextos arqueológicos identificados en términos espaciales, materiales y cronológicos. La investigación discute la organización político-territorial indígena en relación con el proceso discontinuo de implantación urbana en el siglo XVI y XVIII, acentuando una reflexión sobre la continuidad y el cambio en los patrones culturales en el área de estudio. A história ocupacional da província e cidade de Osorno é documentada no contexto das relações interculturais pré-hispânicas e coloniais da chamada "fronteira superior", na porção sul do Governo do Chile. Este trabalho apresenta novos resultados orientados pelos seguintes objetivos: 1) caracterizar arqueologicamente a atual área urbana de Osorno a partir de levantamentos sistemáticos e 2) descrever os contextos arqueológicos identificados em termos espaciais, materiais e cronológicos. A pesquisa discute a organização político-territorial indígena em relação ao processo descontínuo de implantação urbana nos séculos XVI e XVIII, enfatizando uma reflexão sobre a continuidade e mudança dos padrões culturais na área de estudo.
