The instruments used were: the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire and the grade record. The sample consisted of 44 students from 4th and 5th grade of secondary school specializing in Administration and Commerce in the city of Lima, Peru. The results obtained through the Spearman's Rho correlational analysis indicate a Sig. p. significance value = 0.000 < 0.01; therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative is accepted, with a correlation index of Rho = -0.663 between the two variables. Consequently, there is a strong negative correlation between the two variables, therefore, it is concluded that there is a significant correlation between anxiety toward learning English as a foreign language and oral proficiency in public technical secondary school students.

El objetivo del presente estudio es comprender la relación entre ansiedad hacia el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera y competencia oral en estudiantes de secundaria técnica pública. El estudio se enmarca en el enfoque cuantitativo de nivel correlacional, de diseño no experimental y de corte transversal. Los instrumentos que se emplearon fueron: el cuestionario Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) y el registro de calificaciones. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 44 estudiantes del 4° y 5° de secundaria de la especialidad de Administración y Comercio en la ciudad de Lima en Perú. Los resultados arrojados mediante el análisis correlacional de Rho de Spearman, señalan un Sig. p. valor de significancia =0,000<0,01 por tal razón la hipótesis que se rechaza es la nula y se acepta la alterna, con un índice de correlación de Rho= -0.663 entre las dos variables. En consecuencia, existe correlación negativa fuerte entre las dos variables, por lo tanto, se concluye que existe correlación significativa entre ansiedad hacia el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera y competencia oral en estudiantes de secundaria técnica pública. O objetivo do presente estudo é determinar a relação entre ansiedade em língua estrangeira e proficiência oral em estudantes de formação técnica. O estudo enquadra-se na abordagem quantitativa de nível correlacional, delineamento não experimental e transversal. Os instrumentos utilizados foram o questionário Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) e o registro de notas. A amostra foi composta por 44 alunos do 4º e 5º ano. Os resultados obtidos através da análise de correlação Rho de Spearman apontam para um Sig. pág. valor de significância =0,000<0,01 por isso a hipótese rejeitada é a nula e a alternativa é aceita, com índice de correlação Rho= -0,663 entre as duas variáveis. Consequentemente, existe correlação positiva negativa entre as duas variáveis, portanto, conclui-se que existe correlação significativa entre ansiedade em língua estrangeira e proficiência oral em estudantes do ensino médio de formação técnica.
