Two empirical areas of anthropological theorization are presented: urbanizations of villas and land occupations in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. The argument raises an epistemological bifurcation when it comes to understanding the political practice in mobilizations for access to popular habitat. The objective of the work critically organizes a state of the art that revisits the debate on political clientelism and explores crossings with "the right to the city", which is the new paradigm from which traditional urban disputes are read. El artículo desarrolla una revisión bibliográfica sobre la acción política popular en disputas urbanas metropolitanas en el periodo entre 2004 y 2014. Se presentan dos ámbitos empíricos de teorización antropológica: urbanizaciones de villas y ocupaciones de tierras en el Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires. El argumento plantea una bifurcación epistemológica cuando se trata de comprender la práctica política en movilizaciones por el acceso al hábitat popular. El objetivo del trabajo organiza críticamente un estado del arte que revisita el debate sobre clientelismo político y explora cruces con “el derecho a la ciudad”, que es el nuevo paradigma desde el cual se leen las disputas urbanas tradicionales.
