We identified the features of family farming and food patterns (current and past). The methodology consisted of qualitative strategies to collect information by in-depth interviews and observations as well as the analysis of secondary sources. As the result, we characterized family producers and link them to food practices and knowledge. In this line, we conclude that: a) small-scale agriculture is one of the main productive strategies of the area; b) family farming is the key to the organizational structure regarding social relations in production and food processing; c) the identity roots of food patterns related to local meals consumption and elaboration sustains food sovereignty.
