Sumario: | This article outlines the thought of Alberto Rex González on formative archaeological art from northwestern Argentina. The scientist's contributions have been lasting and multiple; here is highlighted his challenge -not yet solved- to look for "structure" in the images inscribed in ceramic vessels, stone vessels and woods carved by pre-Hispanic indigenous societies. The search for structures (and structuralism) currently raises concrete paradoxes related to language, signs and their references. But they are not less than those that emerge under the cover of the epistemology of interpretation. |
