On 20th November 1845 an important battle took place between the forces of the Argentine Confederation and a powerful Anglo-French fleet, which guarded a convoy of about one hundred merchant ships that intended to establish free trade by navigating the inland Argentine rivers. This paper evaluates whether during that battle Post-traumatic stress and terror disorder appeared during the combat. Our frame of reference is based on a theoretical and epistemological approach. We address the problem using data from written documents and the material record found on land after 20 years of archaeological excavations. We will also consider psychological studies of modern conflicts of this sort. On the other hand, we will evaluate the investigation procedure considering the limits of the information sources of the disciplines that intend to learn about the past. |

El 20 de noviembre de 1845 se desarrolló una importante batalla entre fuerzas de la Confederación Argentina y una poderosa flota combinada franco-inglesa que custodiaba un convoy de unos cien barcos mercantes que se proponían implantar el libre-comercio navegando por los ríos interiores argentinos. Este trabajo trata de evaluar si durante esa batalla se manifestaron comportamientos de Trastorno o síndrome post-traumático del estrés y terror en combate. Nuestro marco de referencia se funda en cuestiones teóricas y epistemológicas. Abordamos la problemática utilizando datos de documentos escritos y del registro material hallado en tierra luego de 20 años de excavaciones arqueológicas. Asimismo, consideraremos estudios psicológicos de conflictos modernos del tipo que nos ocupa. Por otra parte, evaluaremos el procedimiento de investigación considerando los límites de las fuentes de información de las disciplinas que intentan conocer el pasado. Em 20 de novembro de 1845, ocorreu uma importante batalha entre as forças da Confederação Argentina e uma poderosa frota combinada franco-inglesa que guardava um comboio de quase cem navios mercantes que pretendia implementar o livre comércio navegando pelos rios do interior argentino. Este trabalho tenta avaliar se comportamentos de transtorno de estresse pós-traumático ou síndrome e terror em combate se manifestaram durante aquela batalha. Nosso referencial é baseado em questões teóricas e epistemológicas. Abordamos o problema usando dados de documentos escritos e o registro de material encontrado em terra após 20 anos de escavações arqueológicas. Além disso consideraremos estudos psicológicos de conflitos modernos do tipo que nos interessa. Por outro lado, avaliaremos o procedimento de pesquisa considerando os limites das fontes de informação das disciplinas que procuram conhecer o passado.
