We propose the recovery and study of what was the most bitter anti-modernist campaign, the one carried out by the Italian philologist Matías Calandrelli (1845-1919) in the pages of the Revista de Derecho, Historia y Letras, the newspapers El Nacional and La Prensa, and in the book Crítica y arte. The study of these materials allows us not only to account for the specific content adopted by criticism against modernism, but also to reflect on the way in which both the conception of literature and the protocols of criticism were being transformed. By analyzing the disagreement between the conception of criticism as pedagogy and the modern concept of literature, the aim is to contribute both to a history of criticism of modernism and to a history of the transformations of criticism itself. A fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX, el modernismo suscitó defensas entusiastas y censuras acerbas. Aquí se propone la recuperación y el estudio de la que fue la campaña antimodernista más enconada, la que llevó adelante el filólogo italiano Matías Calandrelli (1845-1919) en las páginas de la Revista de Derecho, Historia y Letras, los diarios El Nacional y La Prensa, y en el libro Crítica y arte. El estudio de estos materiales permite dar cuenta del contenido que adoptó la crítica contraria al modernismo, pero también reflexionar acerca del modo en que estaba transformándose tanto la concepción de literatura como los protocolos de la crítica. Así, al analizar el desencuentro entre la concepción de la crítica como pedagogía y el concepto moderno de literatura, se pretende contribuir tanto a una historia de la crítica sobre el modernismo como a una historia de las transformaciones de la propia crítica.
