Some genetic hypothesis are used in this reading to analyze the double and perhaps contradictory lineage of Vanasco’s play: the borgiana and the surrealist lineage. In this double impression, I would like to analyze the “objective” features of the story in order to establish proximities and distances, using the novel La modification written by Michel Butor as a contrasting work, whose structural similarity with that of its silent Argentinian precursor have been already marked by the critics. Este trabajo consiste en una lectura de Sin embargo Juan vivía, de Alberto Vanasco, novela publicada en 1947 y precursora del nouveau roman francés. La lectura ensaya algunas hipótesis genéticas en relación con la prosapia doble y acaso contradictoria de la obra de Vanasco: la borgiana y la surrealista. En esta doble impronta, se analizan los rasgos presuntamente “objetivistas” de la novela, para establecer cercanías y distancias, utilizando como texto contrastante la novela de Michel Butor La modification, cuya semejanza estructural con la de su silencioso precursor argentino había sido ya señalada por la crítica.
