Besides, both novels were a great sales success by the time they were published, which increased the amount of reviews and comments that questioned each work at the same time. It’s important to say that the documentary sources had already taken care of bonding these writings and because of that, they both participated on one of the most remarkable debates of the decade: the quarrels on the literary language. The main purpose of this paper is to partially rebuild those debates that revolved around these two novels, not only relating to the literary language issue but also with the discussion related to the idiom itself Las novelas Don Segundo Sombra, de Ricardo Güiraldes y Zogoibi de Enrique Larreta se publicaron en el mismo año, 1926, con muy pocos meses de diferencia. Eso determinó, en buena medida, que muchos comentarios críticos contemporáneos leyeran ambas obras al mismo tiempo, entablando semejanzas y disparidades. A su vez, las dos novelas significaron un éxito de ventas muy importante en el momento de su publicación, lo cual propició aún más la aparición de reseñas y comentarios que las indagaban al mismo tiempo. Vale decir que las fuentes documentales ya se habían encargado de vincular estos textos y, merced a ello, participan en conjunto en uno de los debates que marcó la década: las querellas sobre el lenguaje literario. El propósito principal de esta ponencia es reconstruir parcialmente los debates que se generaron en torno a estas dos novelas en relación no sólo con las polémicas sobre la lengua literaria sino también con las discusiones en torno al idioma.
