The crisis of poetry and the theories of reading that circulated in Argentine literature between modernism and the avant-garde put into effect the death of the author as a romantic genius and give rise to the birth of the reader as a subject of meaning. The problem is present explicitly in the essay of Martínez Estrada and is associated with the sacrifice of the poet who carries forward in the volumes of poetry of 1929. Also, along with the death of the author and the birth of the reader, we study here also other correspondences between Martínez Estrada and Roland Barthes: interest in the figure of the labyrinth and the short forms of poetry. La investigación sobre la recepción de Roland Barthes en Argentina podría formularse también a través de la pregunta por sus precursores en nuestro país. La muerte del autor, tema que ha sido datado en la historia de la teoría y la crítica literaria (Topuzián), está presente en la literatura mucho antes de su formulación —hoy clásica— en la obra de Barthes. La crisis de la poesía y las teorías de la lectura que circularon en la literatura argentina entre el modernismo y las vanguardias ponen en acto la muerte del autor como genio romántico y dan lugar al nacimiento del lector como sujeto del sentido. La problemática está presente de forma explícita en la ensayística de Martínez Estrada y está asociada al sacrificio del poeta, que lleva adelante en los volúmenes de poesía de 1929. Asimismo, junto a la muerte del autor y el nacimiento del lector, estudiamos aquí también otras correspondencias entre Martínez Estrada y Roland Barthes: el interés por la figura del laberinto y por las formas breves de la poesía.
