| Sumario: | This article explores on the cultural meaning of the transgender body inthe Chilean film Una mujer fantástica from a Queer Studies perspective. Althoughnot an essay about theory, this work discusses critical issues in the film under thelight of concepts elaborated by the authors Jack Halberstam (Skin Shows) and SaraAhmed. First, I briefly introduce the implications of queer theory and thetransgender phenomena, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Then, the notions ofthe body proposed by Halberstam provide a reference for the cultural constructionof the hybrid or monstrous body, in this specific case, linked to the transgender body. Finally, Ahmed’s critical speculation regarding the political implications of beinghappy reminds us how certain bodies have been systematically excluded from thescripts of happiness. |
