Sumario:Abstract: This article offers a comparative analysis of Zama (2017), the fourth film by the Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel, based on the homonymous novel by Antonio Di Benedetto (1956). We discuss the transformation of literary autodiegetic narration into an esthetic that we define as realism of perception. We also study the configuration of the historic chronotope (Asunción, 18th century) in both texts. We analyze the re-elaboration of philosophical problems across both narratives, such as absurd heroism, the concept of identity, and the tensions between Europe and America in the colonial world. Finally, we consider the fictional figures of children and animals, the resignification of fatalism, and the filmic use of some of the most emblematic allegories from the hypotext.
