The analysis focuses on the cortazarian figure of the “centipede” –that human-machine hybrid which emerges from the traffic jam as a kind of semi-autonomous assemblage– and explores its functioning as an ontological metaphor for the literary understanding of the technological phenomenon. Through a dialogue with the philosophies of Andrew Feenberg, Martin Heidegger, and other philosophers, we discover, in the texture of the narrative, a cortazarian conception of technics that equally transcends technophobic pessimism and technophilic fascination, foreshadowing a critical theory of technology in line with Feenberg’s philosophy. Este trabajo de arqueología poética propone un abordaje especulativo del celebrado cuento de Julio Cortázar, “La autopista del sur”, con miras a articular una conexión interdisciplinaria efectiva que posicione al escritor argentino como un crítico temprano de la racionalidad tecnológica en la modernidad tardía. El análisis se centra en la figura del “ciempiés” –ese híbrido humano-máquina que emerge del embotellamiento de tránsito como una especie de organismo semiautónomo– y explora su funcionamiento como metáfora ontológica para la comprensión literaria de la técnica. Mediante un diálogo con las filosofías de Andrew Feenberg, Martin Heidegger y otros filósofos, descubrimos, en la textura del relato, una concepción cortazariana de la técnica que trasciende por igual el pesimismo tecnofóbico y la fascinación tecnofílica, anticipándose a una teoría crítica de la tecnología en línea con la filosofía de Feenberg.
