The space these conferences deal in the literary thought of the author, lies in the concern for truth of literature performative nature. The text is contemporary to the Course in the Collège de France La volonté de Savoir (1970), therefore, also close to the ethical-political proposals of the last stage. It is for this reason that this text is placed in the threshold of his last works dedicated exclusively to the literature and of the problematization of the truth as "to say truth" that is in its last courses of the Collège de France. En 2013, en su edición francesa, y en 2015, en la traducción al español, han sido publicados dos seminarios sobre Sade, con título homónimo. 3 Michel Foucault pronunció estas conferencias en 1970, en la Universidad del Estado de Nueva York, Buffalo, pero habían permanecido inéditas entonces. Consideramos que este texto se sitúa en el umbral entre sus últimos trabajos dedicados de manera exclusiva a la literatura, y la problematización de la verdad como “decir verdad” de sus últimas conferencias y cursos del Collège de France. El lugar que estas dos conferencias ocupan dentro del pensamiento literario del autor, está próxima a la preocupación por una verdad de la literatura de naturaleza performativa. Y, en tanto que el texto es contemporáneo del Curso en el Collège de France La volonté de Savoir (1970), próximo también a las propuestas éticopolíticas de la última etapa.
